"Have any of you lot rented a car in the states previously? If so, anyone got any advice on companies to go with or tips on stuff to do/avoid? Dont really know that much about how it all works, whether you can pick up and drop off in different states etc, and i find it best to have anecdotal evidence from people that have done it before then trawling the company websites.

I'm going on a road trip around the US in September with a couple of mates and so its a bit of a crucial part to get right :)

Second question: Does anyone know much about driving regulations over there? I'm 26 and i've been driving since I was 18 so I'm sure i'll be fine in terms of rental and insurance, but one mate is in the process of learning right now. Have you got to have been driving for a certain length of time before you can drive over there?

Any stories/advice appreciated!"
